Isaac Hayes will no longer be the voice of Chef on South Park. Hayes stated that "There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends, and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices." Hayes' distaste for South Park came after the show satarized Christians Jews Muslims Mormons Scientologists. Can you guess what religion Hayes follows?
In a statement, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone said "we will release Isaac from his contract and we wish him well." As creators of satire that has taken aim at hypocrisies and idiocies in American culture, we can only hope that they provide a proper send-off for the character. As the quick departure has probably caught them off guard, they may need to simply make a quick and clean departure (the Maude Flanders treatment, if you will).
Some possibilities to easily exit the character from the show:
- Food poisoning
- Joins a cult
- Extreme makeover
- Sex-reassignment surgery (wait, another character just did that)
- Abduction by aliens (maybe from Xenu?)
